Scenic Black and White Photo Contest - I Heart Faces

This is my first post EVER... so I am a little nervous.  Let me start by saying that I am a full-time mother, wife, nurse and a Wanna-a-Be (Good and Better) Photographer.

This past Father's Day 2010, my husband lost a fellow police officer in the line of duty.  I am a daughter of a police officer and a wife of a police officer.  Bad things happen everyday but you never think it's gonna hit this close to home.  That day was horrible.  So was the next day, and the next.  The funeral was almost a week later.    That seemed like the longest week of my life.  My husband worked day and night at the police department  preparing for the funeral of this man who had given his life protecting the citizens and other fellow police officers.  On a hot summer day in Texas,  a wonderful man was laid to rest.  The funeral was heartbreaking and beautiful too.  I was lucky enough to be able ride in the backseat of my husbands police car for the 1 hour precession to his final rest place.  That day with forever be etched in my mind.  It was amazing the people who stood on the sides of the highway for miles and miles and miles.

As I said before, I was in the backseat of the patrol car.  This picture was taken looking up through my husbands not so clean window.  I was amazed that my camera caught this.  Officer Shaw was a mountain of a man, a loving husband and father and he had a smile that was contagious.  He left behind a wife, a young son, daughter, and a police department who was proud to have served with him.  I think about him often looking down through those clouds and smiling....hoping that all who knew him are comforted knowing he gave his life doing what he loved.
